Central Bank of Azerbaijan

Description

The Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a 12-story building located in the heart of Baku. The building required renovation and SuperSpaceStudio was pleased to fulfill this project.

The bank's management announced a competition for a redesign project for the main building, and our studio also presented its vision. We developed a new concept for the bank's facades, rethought its texture and color solutions, and generally updated the architectural image of the building as more modern and visually fresh.

Project

The original structure of the building was erected with monumental scope. We retained the bank's massive geometric shapes and its imposing silhouette, but completely rethought its stylistic solution.

green terraces to accentuate the volumetric diversity of the facades, we complemented them with open terraces with greenery, especially visible against the white background. We designed 31 terraces directly on the facades as well as 3 open green areas on the roof of the building and on the stylobate above the entrance.

The main facade of the bank is a right angle turned in our direction with a green stylobate platform that crowns the entrance group. We moved away from the idea of continuous glazing realized in the bank's original solution. In turn, we gave the facades a clear rhythmic pattern that visually breaks up the monolithic mass of the building.

The clear rhythm of the panoramic windows on the snow-white façade is interrupted by the stepped patterns of the terrace recesses. Their façade wall is designed with almost continuous glazing with minimal frames that contrast with the overall visual texture of the building.

The combination of panoramic glass with white color and natural greenery allowed us to add lightness and friendliness to the image of a monumental, squat building with strict geometry of elements.
